In 2006, a small but dedicated group of fly tiers in the Fayetteville, NC area planned a fundraising event to support the efforts of the March of Dimes in working to prevent preterm birth.

Tying flies to save babies!

The inaugural event was an immediate success, raising over $3500 for the March of Dimes, and donating approximately 350 flies to Casting for Recovery. We have now completed three Tie-a-thons. Together these Tie-a-thons and related events have raised over $15,000 for the March of Dimes, and more than 800 flies have been donated! In addition, these events have been a lot of fun and have allowed us to introduce numerous people to the joys of fly tying.

March of Dimes - Help save babies from premature birth.

Casting for Recovery - Provides fly fishing retreats at locations around the United States. Retreats are specifically designed for women who have or have had breast cancer.

Things are really shaping up for this year's event! We would like to welcome our newest sponsors. Captain Jamie Rushing of SEAGATE CHARTERS from Wilmington, NC has generously donated a 1/2 day fishing charter for our silent auction. If inshore and nearshore fishing is what you are looking for then Jamie is the man! He is especially interested in helping kids to have a memorable day on the water. Thank you Jamie.

We are fortunated to have the support of noted flyfisherman, fly tier, author, and fulltime saltwater fishing guide, Captain Seth Vernon of DOUBLE HAUL GUIDE SERVICE. He will be joining us for the day and will offer insight about flyfishing for redfish along the Carolina coast. He will also be available for some casting and fly tying demonstrations. Other activities for the day are shaping up. There will be a schedule of activities posted closer to the time of the event. We are open for all suggestions. Please let us know if you will be participating as a tier. Start getting your sponsorship donations. Remember If you tie with us and raise $50 minimum you are eligible for a "Goody" bag. Tiers who raise over $100 will be eligible for a drawing for a rod and reel.

Winter 2009

Mark your Calendars! The date and location for the 4th Annual Fly Tie-a-thon have been set. APRIL 25 at the John E. Pechmann Fishing Education Center in Fayetteville. Please join us as we "Tie flies to save Babies!".

This year's event has been selected as an official event of the Fayetteville Dogwood Festival!
